Cepep's research is focused on applications of cellpenetrating peptides originating from Prof. Ülo Langel's group at Stockholm University, Sweden.

Cepep AB is a pharmaceutical R&D company with a unique and proprietary technology platform on cell penetrating pepcides ("CPP"). The technology opens the possibililty for a completely new therapeutic principle as well as for significant improvement of a large number of existing pharmaceutical products, regardless of therapeutic area.

CePeP’s technology can predict and design transport vectors, from peptide sequences, to carry small molecules, peptides, proteins, antisense oligonucleotides, polysaccharides and plasmids over the cellular membrane. In addition, there are ways to direct the CPP delivery to certain tissues. Therefore, the business opportunities are not limited to a narrow field of therapeutics, but applicable within all areas of intracellular delivery of drugs. Also, CePeP can design CPPs for corporate applications.

In addition, with CePeP´s technology it is possible to select CPP’s derived from the proteins that penetrate cell membranes and in fact, mimic the

effect of a signaling protein thus opening up an original approach for developing “protein agonist mimics”.

The capacity to penetrate cell membranes can also be utilized for conventional drug delivery over different barriers; G-I, nasal mucosa, oral mucosa and pulmonary delivery.

CePeP’s mission is to utilize the proprietary CPP technology both for the development of new pharmaceutical products and for significantly improving the efficacy of existing pharmaceuticals. The core research and development is focused on products for treatment of cancer and endocrine disorders. The scientific platform is not limited to any single pharmaceutical field, and the areas outside the Company’s focus will be pursued through out licensing and collaboration arrangements.

 


The Company is based on the pioneer research performed by Professor Ülo Langel and his group at the Stockholm University. The science pertains mainly to the break-through discovery that certain natural peptides/proteins, like receptors, penetrate the cell membrane guided by a unique chemical sequence e.g. a CPP. This sequence has been reduced to a data based algorithm so that the cell penetrating peptides can be predicted and designed as well as produced and controlled for pharmaceutical purposes. The second scientific break-through involves the discovery that such CPP’s may be targeted to certain tissues or cell types. To summarize, CPP technology may not only improve delivery but also the selectivity of the delivered therapeutics.
